land only: $1900 usd

coto summit.jpg

Back by popular demand, several of our "veteran" hikers and climbers requested a return to beatiful Quito and the surrounding countryside. This trip will include acclimatization hikes on easier trekking peaks which include Pasochoa and the Pichinchas. Our ultimate objective, Chimborazo, is, in some circles, considered the tallest mountain on earth given its position on the equator. We use certified local guides and safety is our number one focus. This is an article about our last trip down to Ecuador.   Finding East Tennessee’s place on the edge of a South American volcano

Itinerary (subject to change, contingent upon conditions)
Day 1: Arrive Quito, rest in our comfortable boutique property
Day 2: Explore the city at your leisure. Perhaps consider an open air bus tour and walk through the
museums.
Day 3. Hike Pasochoa. This is a great "get your feet wet" sort of climb. We are dri
ven one hour outside the city to begin our ascent of this 13,780 foot dormant volcano. Your lungs and legs will feel this. We return to Quito and enjoy a rest day.
Day 5: After finishing a delicious (included) breakfast, we will take the cable car and begin our hike up Rucu Pichincha. The best view of Quito is had here as we rise th
rough the cloud forest to an elevation of 15, 596 feet. Take it slow, its not a race.
Day 6: Rest.
Transfer to the central Andes and stay at Tambopaxi lodge.
Day 7: We meet our guides and climb Ruminahui. It sits in the shadow of Cotopaxi.
Days 8-10 Summit window. The weather is our primary focus. We defer to the local guides who have taken hundreds to the summit. We will transfer to Chimborazo base camp to begin our ascent of this mountain with our local guides.
Day 10-11  Return to Quito.
Great time to soak in the hot springs at Pappalacta. Depart at leisure or proceed to a side tour of the Galapagos, which we can help you arrange.
